A true one of one Porsche

Whilst this incredible car well and truly broke the internet back in July 2020, I thought it was worth revisiting it and to take a deep dive into just how Porsche’s ultimate track weapon can be completely transformed into a sophisticated and tranquil looking 911, even at 9,000 rpm.

So what are we looking at exactly? It started life as a factory fresh GT Silver 911 GT2 RS, Porsche’s ode to its rich motorsport heritage. This RWD, 720 horsepower turbo’d monster is unlike any other 911, and you’d notice that almost instantly. With the approx. £22,000 Weissach Pack fitted, the 2RS has shed almost 30kg from its original weight, and the extras included are truly mind-bending. The pack included the first carbon fibre stabilising bars ever fitted to a production vehicle, as well as carbon weave over the bonnet and roof. Each of its magnesium wheels shed around 2.7kg, making almost every element of the car lighter and more agile than ever before.

What follows is the work of true artists, transforming one of the most desirable and recognisable performance cars on the market into a true one of one. Topaz Detailing are no stranger to working on the supercar elite, but this was a task like no other. I strongly urge you to grab a coffee and watch their video here and see the team get to work on the transformation, results are astounding.

The client chose Ferrari’s Verde British on the exterior, with matching wheels and Ferrari Bronzo brake calipers. The simple lines of this era of 911 can still be spotted, even through the huge air intakes and vents, where this shade of Verde suits it perfectly. The interior is where the party’s really at though. You can almost smell the richness of the leather finished in Ferrari’s Cuoio through the screen, and almost every inch of the interior has been caked in rich leather. For me, one of the most eye-catching parts of the entire car is the leather lined roll cage and gearbox tunnel, almost beaming out of the rear and easily visible through its non-tinted glass. (quick shout-out to non-tinted glass!). The seats are one of the few contrasting elements to the interior, with a twin shade of green on the seat inserts, designed as a nod to the 964 RS which had a very similar style of seat. Overall, the interior is truly breath-taking and the workmanship involved is just fantastic, everywhere you look there is something new to spot and steeped in leather or green.

I guess whilst many of us have glanced at photos of this car on the countless accounts that shared it back in July, @GreenOverTan included, it’s only when you take the time to consider just how much has changed on this 2RS and the amount of time, effort and planning that must have taken place to get the car to look the way it does now. Taking a German thoroughbred and draping it in its arch rival’s Italian suit might seem like an odd concept to some, and whilst the Cuoio leather may also be dazzling to others, cars are designed to be enjoyed by both their owners and viewers, and this car might just be the ultimate expression of that. Take everything you like about the GT2 RS, combine it with the finish and theatre of a Ferrari hypercar, and you’ve got yourself a winning combination.

A huge thank you to Thomas Howarth for sharing his incredible photographs with me, and Topaz Detailing who allowed Green Over Tan to be one of the first in the world to showcase this car to the world via Instagram, with that post now reaching over 1,000,000 accounts and inspiring thousands to consider going green (and tan!).
